He died at the age of 95 Lorenzo Buffonfor ten years goalkeeper Milan captained by Nils Liedholm (1950-1960), with whom he won five league titles. He died of a sudden heart attack in Latisana, in the Udine province where he lived. Therefore, in just less than a month, he would be 96 years old. His daughter Patricia broke the news of his disappearance. In his long career he also wore the uniforms of Genoa, Fiorentina and Inter, as well as the national team.

Considered one of the best goalkeeper in Italian football, he was the first player to marry a face on television, host of the program “Lascia o Raddoppia” hosted by Mike Bongiorno, Edy Campagnoli. They said yes to each other in 1958, but divorced in 1968, ten years later. They met after Edy went to the stadium to meet him and stood behind his goal. The first outing in the Milan fog was only after the wedding, so as not to be noticed by the fans. From their union, their only daughter, Patricia, was born.

Dubbed “clamp” for his grip. His rivalry with another goalkeeper of the same era, Giorgio Ghezzi, was historic, especially because he played for Inter and the derby was also a confrontation between two great players. He had the honor of being selected – with the legendary Soviet goalkeeper Lev Yashin – represented the FIFA All-Star team in the 1960s. He’s in touch with Gigi Buffon because he is the second cousin of the former goalkeeper’s grandfather and cousin of Armando Buffon as a goalkeeper in the 60s and 70s.

Born in 1929. He grew up as a footballer in Latisana and after his experience with Portogruarese, his great adventure with Milan began. After four months of apprenticeship as the fourth goalkeeper, he surpassed the competition and became an irreplaceable starter. With the Rossoneri he won four championships (the first after the club never gave up since 1907) and two Latin Cups, the old Champions Cup. After falling out with “Gipo” Viani, he reluctantly left Milan, in a goalkeeping waltz that would take Giorgio Ghezzi to the Rossoneri and Buffon first to Genoa and then to Inter. He ended his career at Ivrea in 1965 after a period in Florence. He made 15 appearances for the Azzurri and wore the captain’s armband five times, sharing a training camp with Giampiero Boniperti and taking part in the ill-fated expedition to the ’62 World Cup, which also marked the end of his Azzurri career.

At the end of his career, he fled to the United States where – Buffon later said – he befriended Frank Sinatra. Giovanni Gronchi knighted him of labor for the match against England which left him with a broken nose and several ribs. He consoled himself from his vicissitudes not only with championships, but with a little painting and reading Tolstoy.

A year ago, Lorenzo spoke about his healthy lifestyle and love of gymnastics even though he is over 90 years old. On television he still watches the AC Milan match, which on Sunday gave him the final prize, winning the derby against Inter.
