Cross-country skier Victoria Carl won an Olympic gold medal in Beijing in 2022. After her positive doping test, she is now facing missing the Winter Olympics. He himself has already marked the Olympics.
German Olympic cross-country skiing champion Victoria Carl remains temporarily banned after her positive doping test and will therefore most likely miss the 2026 Olympics. “According to the current status of procedures, participation in the upcoming winter competitions and the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan-Cortina are excluded,” the German Ski Association (DSV) said. The “Süddeutsche Zeitung” previously reported.
30-year-old Carl tested positive for the banned substance clenbuterol during screening outside the World Cup in March this year. Calf fattening drugs are drugs that are mainly used to treat respiratory diseases such as asthma.
The National Anti-Doping Agency (Nada) also commented on the current status. He wrote about the proposed two-year ban from Nada on September 22. Next, Nada and Carl negotiated a “peaceful termination of the sports legal process.”
The most promising athlete
According to Nada, in the next process a decision will be made whether to accept the sanctions decision from September or to initiate disciplinary proceedings before the German Court of Arbitration for Sport.
“It is still difficult for me to accept that carelessness and wrong medical treatment will now ruin my Olympic dreams,” said Carl. After winning team sprint gold with Katharina Hennig in Beijing in 2022, she is considered the most promising German athlete in national coach Peter Schlickenrieder’s team.
Carl: “Four years have passed”
“My world was literally collapsing inside me. I think every Olympian can relate to that. It’s been four years,” Carl said on ARD.
The positive doping test results became public in the summer. Carl publicly denied his knowledge of the positive test at the Winter Military World Games in Andermatt (Switzerland). “It was a very difficult time where I always hoped that things could get better,” said Carl as quoted by DSV today. Your association is now desperate for the Winter Olympics (February 6 to 22) in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo.
It is still unclear when a decision will be made on a definite sentence.
