ROME (ITALPRESS) – Combating gender violence, especially that which occurs within the home, requires a synergistic commitment between institutions, the third sector and private actors. In this context, Verisure, in collaboration with the Differenza Donna association, has implemented an advanced operational model aimed at strengthening the capacity to respond to emergency situations reported by victims.
The initiative is part of the worrying data emerging from the fourth edition of the Censis-Verisure Home Security Observatory, developed in collaboration with the Home Office’s Criminal Analysis Agency.
Since 2022, Verisure has launched a structured special training project for Security Guards in its Operations Centers, with the aim of recognizing and adequately managing situations of gender violence. This training was gradually extended to all staff working on the front line with customers, reaching a total of around 340 trained professionals.
The operating model has proven its effectiveness. Between 2023 and July 2025, the Operations Center handled 38 cases of women who requested help via the SOS button on the alarm system, reporting situations of abuse. In each of these circumstances, the Center immediately notifies the police and activates a special assistance network for victims. Each intervention is carried out according to a specific operational protocol, which aims to guarantee the person’s safety and provide information about available services and helplines, while maintaining anonymity.
The importance of this type of intervention is reinforced by the results of the Censis-Verisure Observatory, which underscore how the home, although a symbolic place of safety and intimacy, still represents a high-risk context for many women victims of violence.
According to the Observatory, in 2024, 28,896 cases of abuse against family members and people living together will be recorded, with 81% of the victims being women. This figure increases by 14.4% compared to 2023 and 38.6% over the last five years. The seriousness of this phenomenon is increasingly visible from the 154 murders that occurred in a family or emotional context in 2024, with female victims in 65% of cases. In 72 episodes, the perpetrator was a partner or former partner, and in these contexts the percentage of female victims increased to 86%.
In the field of gender violence, acts of abuse and stalking reached 20,289 reports, an increase of 3.8% compared to the previous year and 26.3% compared to 2019; also in this region women constitute 74% of victims. There were 6,831 sexual assaults reported, up 9.6% compared to 2023 and 39.9% over the five-year period.
The Censis-Verisure report confirms that gender violence occurs mainly in domestic environments and is often perpetrated by people with ties of trust. In 2024, 79.4% of 17,631 valid telephone calls to anti-violence agencies amounted to 1,522 related episodes that occurred within the walls of the home, an increase of 8.3% compared to 2023. In 54.3% of cases, the perpetrator of violence was a close relative: 31.1% spouse, 13.5% partner, 5.1% children, and 5.1% children. 4.5% parents.
These data highlight the complexity of domestic violence, which occurs in contexts characterized by strong emotional ties or economic dependency, elements that make it more difficult to report or seek help. These figures, while worrying, are just the tip of the iceberg, as many incidents remain hidden due to fear, shame, or lack of adequate tools.
The operational model developed by Verisure and Differenza Donna fits into this context as a real and important contribution to the protection network, underlining the importance of a shared commitment to combat a phenomenon that requires increasingly targeted and timely responses.
