Milan, 25 November (askanews) – Contrary to what was announced, the final vote in the Senate that was supposed to definitively approve, after a unanimous yes vote in the House of Representatives, the bill on “free and current” agreements, which emerged thanks to the bipartisan agreement sought and promoted by opposition leader Elly Schlein and Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, did not arrive today – symbolically coinciding with the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.

The proposal stalled unexpectedly in the Senate Judiciary Committee, which was supposed to give it the green light quickly, followed by equally quick and unanimous approval in the House. What’s holding it back is Liga, followed by Forza Italia but also by Meloni’s Fratelli d’Italia. The majority called for further investigation and in-depth analysis through a series of hearings, paving the way for change. The opposition left the Council in protest.

“It is a bill that will be measured by the commission itself, it was scheduled to be discussed in the House today, that would be very good, but I noticed that there were some changes reported in the commission”, Giulia Bongiorno, president of the Senate Judiciary Committee, explained then in the House, “I have to say that there is a small gap, it would be better to say ’25 November cheers’ but we as legislators are interested in being responsible, let’s make it clear that this law was made, it will get better little by little by making these small additions”.

“Let’s do this law better, let’s all do it together – he concluded – the commitment is to do it quickly and improve it a little”.
