On Tuesday, November 25, the Senate reinstated a freeze on pension funds in the Social Security budget for 2026, except for those below 1,400 euros which will remain indexed to inflation.

This measure, which was repealed by the National Assembly, received a “wise” opinion from the government (neither for nor against), and the Minister of Labour, Jean-Pierre Farandou, supported it. “in principle”. The vote is far from final, as the Social Security budget will return to lawmakers’ desks in the coming days.

The Upper House is also set to vote against suspending pension reform, the government’s flagship concession to socialists, which will be voted on later Tuesday.
