“Bébert” no longer exists. Albert Kassabi, leader of the rock group Les Forbans, died this Tuesday evening in the Paris region, announced Michel Papain, co-founder and drummer of the group, on behalf of the family. The singer died after a long illness at the age of 63.

Originally consisting of high school friends, this group was formed in 1978. Les Forbans achieved success with the title “Chante!” », released in 1982. It is a French adaptation of “Shout! Shout! (Knock Yourself Out)”, by American singer Ernie Maresca, a title published twenty years earlier. This hit propelled them onto the hit parade with almost two million copies sold. Since then, the song has remained a popular song standard.

With around ten albums and around fifty concerts per year these days, Les Forbans participated until 2014 in the tour “Âge Tendre, la tour des idoles”, which brought together figures of popular song from the 1960s to 1990. They celebrated the group’s 40th anniversary on the stage of L’Olympia in 2018.
