Violence and arrests occurred at demonstrations in Berlin-Kreuzberg. Even at first, the police saw reason to intervene – because of a particular slogan.
Police arrest 24 people at pro-Palestinian demonstration in Berlin-Kreuzberg. Five officers were lightly injured in the operation, when police declared X. Violent crimes occurred as a result of the protests.
According to a police spokesperson, around 450 people took part in the registered demonstration which started at Schlesisches Tor. The police already saw reason to intervene: banned and criminal slogans were repeatedly shouted.
In particular, according to a police spokesperson, this involved chants such as the controversial slogan “From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free.” This sentence means that there must be an independent Palestine in the area from the Jordan River to the Mediterranean – where Israel is now located. The Berlin prosecutor’s office assumed that the slogan was punishable.
The chairman of the meeting was asked to stop the forbidden shouting. However, the perpetrator did not follow the police’s instructions. “Our emergency services are bound by the principle of legality and carry out arrests of identified suspects,” explained the police.
