More AI: HP cuts up to 6,000 jobs
Artificial intelligence is causing American technology companies to cut thousands of jobs. Now computer pioneers also use the red pencil.
Computer company HP wants to save up to 6,000 jobs through greater use of artificial intelligence. The industry pioneer said job cuts must be completed in less than three years. The measures will initially cost around 650 million dollars (560 million euros).
According to the latest information as of the end of October last year, HP had around 58,000 employees. The group later expanded previously announced cuts of about 7,000 jobs to 1,000 to 2,000 jobs. Current employee numbers may be available again soon.
More productivity through AI
According to HP, the new layoffs of 4,000 to 6,000 jobs are part of a plan to increase productivity, innovation and customer satisfaction through increased use of AI. Artificial intelligence has been used in American companies, including for programming software and is also intended to improve data analysis.
In recent months, jobs in the technology industry have been cut several times due to the implementation of AI. In October, Amazon announced that it would cut about 14,000 administrative jobs, citing changes in the organization in the era of artificial intelligence.
In the last fiscal quarter, HP increased sales by three percent year-over-year to $55.3 billion. Profit fell nine percent to $2.5 billion.
