In mid-May, the Iraqi is said to have seriously injured a 24-year-old with an automatic weapon during an altercation near an asylum center in Göppingen. A co-defendant is said to have been holding the victim when the shots were fired. The bullet struck the man’s chest, piercing his ribs and injuring his lungs.
Despite suffering serious injuries, the victim managed to escape with three acquaintances aged between 18 and 20 years. The alleged perpetrator fired several shots at the group, but did not hit anyone. According to the prosecutor’s office, the four men hid in the tall grass on the B10 – the shooter called off the chase.
Ten days later, the suspect was arrested in Esslingen. He has been in custody since then. The man had been convicted several times for violent crimes and had only been released from prison shortly before the crime was committed. According to prosecutors, he remains silent about his motive. A decision is expected in early March.
