For 23 years, Jordi Pujol embodied power in Catalonia and was fundamental in Spanish politics; Today, old and ill, he and his family face a trial at the National Court investigating whether they used their “privileged position” to enrich themselves with commissions. This comes more than eleven years after the former president confessed that there was undeclared money in Andorra, but which he attributes solely to an inheritance from his father.
Jesús García Bueno, a journalist who follows the courts of Catalonia, analyzes this case as complex as it is symbolic and how that confession exploded the myth of “pujolismo”.
