Appointed a few weeks ago to the Interior Ministry, former Paris prefect Laurent Nuñez has made efforts to combat delinquency. In a letter addressed to the prefects, which Le Parisien was able to obtain, “France’s first police” detailed figures proving the “effectiveness” of three systems “over the course of one year”: the department’s action plan to restore daily security, the “municipalities with reinforced security” system and the one created under the law of 13 June 2025 on drug trafficking.
Laurent Nuñez explained that 37,045 people were arrested as part of a “municipal security enhancement” plan, including “18,285 detained by police and 6,174 put on trial.” In terms of narcotics, 4.87 tons of confiscated goods were recorded, including 4.45 tons of marijuana (83 kg of heroin and 334 kg of cocaine).
In addition, 2,665 weapons were confiscated and 1,899 business premises were inspected, 262 of which were closed. Still within the framework of the “City with strengthened security” system, 14,131 foreigners in irregular situations were arrested, including 1,429 people placed in administrative detention centers, explained the Minister of the Interior.
“Unfavorable trend on certain indicators”
“Most of the indicators are positive and reflect an increase in service activity, especially in the fight against narcotics and carrying weapons,” explains Place Beauvau, who specifically mentions the increase in the number of suspects in drug trafficking (+5.3%) and consumption (+1.3%). Regarding carrying weapons, the number of fines for offenses related to sharp weapons increased by 308.4%.
(2/2) The Jean Aprin affair: criminal conspiracy in the vineyard
Regarding the means introduced by the June 2025 drug trafficking law, on September 30, the Ministry of the Interior noted “438 performance bans, 37 business closures and 49 orders to public landlords were issued regarding rental evictions.”
“However, delinquency statistics still show unfavorable trends in certain indicators and results that do not meet the stated objectives,” said Laurent Nuñez. “So, for example, violent theft (+12.4%), violent theft in public transport (+2.2%), non-violent theft in public transport (+12.4%) or intentional damage and destruction (+18.4%) continue to increase,” he wrote.
” We do not give up ! »
“Analysis of the activities of these bodies shows that there is still room for progress in the mobilization of the prefects’ new administrative powers to deliver a real blow to the underground economy and destabilize drug traffickers,” the Interior Minister continued. “Thank you for your mobilization which is producing encouraging results but must be increased. I am counting on you. We are not giving up ! », concluded Laurent Nuñez.
While the murder of Mehdi Kessaci shocked the entire country, Emmanuel Macron promised to unite actors in the fight against human trafficking again “in mid-December”, before leaving for Marseille – where he went several times and made significant financial efforts.
