DThe German Ethics Council is intended to provide ethical guidance regarding controversial contemporary issues. This of course includes addressing climate change, for example as its impacts on (human) health are increasingly evident, including for those of us in the North – while ambitious climate protection is on hold, as recently observed at the World Climate Conference in Brazil. In 2024 we deliver our statement on climate justice for politics and society. In it, we argue, among other things, that there is a responsibility to take climate protection measures – primarily as a duty of the state, but also with regard to individual behavior.
