He wants to “support the use of electrification”. The “electric car bonus” will be extended in 2026 and increased to a maximum of 5,700 euros for the lowest-income households when purchasing a vehicle produced in France or in Europe, Economy Minister Roland Lescure announced this Wednesday morning on France Inter.

Until then, the system makes it possible, since July 1, to obtain assistance of around 4,200 euros “for low- and middle-income households”, according to the Ministry of Economy and another 3,100 euros for certain electric vehicles. The system is financed by energy companies “as part of the energy saving certificate system” (CEE). An additional bonus of 1,000 euros for certain electric cars applied at the beginning of September makes it possible to reach 5,200 euros.

Renault 5, the best-selling electric car in France

“The best-selling electric vehicle in France is the Renault 5 produced in Douai (North), let us be proud,” said Roland Lescure at France Inter. He wants to “continue investing in carbon-free electricity, cheap and made in France”.

For a vehicle to qualify to receive state aid, it must “meet a minimum environmental score.” “This score takes into account the environmental impact of a vehicle from manufacture to use on the road. This score and its calculation method are determined by regulations,” explained the Ministry of Economy. A complete list of relevant vehicles is available on State-specific websites.
