Even two weeks later, Thomas Gottschalk’s Bambi scandal is still an issue. Now the presenter tells how it feels to humiliate his wife.

Thomas Gottschalk presented a golden stag in the Legend category to singer Cher at the Bambi Awards on November 13. She lost the plot several times during her labor and received ridicule when she said, “You’re the only woman I’ve ever taken seriously.” The next day he apologized and explained that he had fainted because Cher’s stunt performance had confused him.

He now told “Bunte” that he had said “stupid things” and that he was also “only human”. The 75-year-old can no longer explain how he said the line, but in the interview he again discussed Cher’s mistake: He thought that the actress Cher who came down from the ceiling with a ball was the real Cher and it took a while before he could go on stage with her. “That’s why I was babbling, to pass the time. I was just rambling – which happens a lot in my life. It’s just that up until then no one had really blamed me.”

Gottschalk said he understands this is something he’s been up against recently, but explained: “Anyone who wants to push me into a misogynistic corner is completely wrong.”

Nevertheless, the situation seems very unpleasant for Gottschalk’s wife, Karina Mroß. Ex “Wet, damn..?” presenter has been married to him since 2024. “He wasn’t happy with what I was confiding in,” he said. She added: “I’m used to being embarrassed by other people. But I never expected anyone to be embarrassed by me. I have to live with it.” One thing is certain for him: “When an icon breaks, society shows incredible passion for it. There are people who are just waiting for someone like me to stumble. And I stumbled – and after forty years, maybe it’s time.”

Thomas Gottschalk will retire soon. On December 6 he said goodbye to the TV stage with his last appearance on the RTL show “Because you don’t know what happens”. Then the entertainer wanted to travel with his wife first. “But that doesn’t mean I won’t speak out again,” he said.
