PSOE and Sumar criticized this Wednesday the fact that three of the magistrates who convicted Álvaro García Ortiz participated at the end of the trial in paid hearings managed by the Order of Distinguished Lawyers of Madrid (ICAM), one of the accusers in the case against the State Attorney General and who asked him for four years in prison. Both the parliamentary spokesperson of the socialists in Congress, Patxi López, and the head of Justice of the Lower House of Sumar, and deputy of Izquierda Unida, Enrique Santiago, criticized the presence of the president of the court, Andrés Martínez Arrieta, and the judges Juan Ramón Berdugo and Antonio del Moral, as revealed on Tuesday andlDiary.es. “We need an explanation and I hope that these three judges will explain it to us. Otherwise, we will continue to maintain suspicions about the sentence”, the socialist spokesperson told Congress this morning.

Enrique Santiago defines the final comment of the President of the Court as “unacceptable”. In statements to EL PAÍS, the deputy underlines that these facts serve as an argument for the public prosecutor’s defense when he arrives before the Constitutional Court and the European Court of Human Rights. “They should have abstained before they had to be recused,” he believes.
