The face-to-face meeting between the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, and the leader of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, in the Government control session this Wednesday, focused on the Supreme Court’s conviction of Álvaro García Ortiz for the crime of revealing secrets linked to the entrepreneur Alberto González Amador, partner of Isabel Díaz Ayuso and tried for fraud against the Treasury. Feijóo criticized the fact that Sánchez tells the Supreme Court “what it must rule and the former public prosecutor how he must appeal”, to which Sánchez replied that the Executive will always be “with the truth” and that he trusts that time will put things in their place.
The president of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, told the head of the executive that “less than president, he exercises everything”: “Last week he found himself with his attorney general condemned for having committed a crime and this week he lives waiting for how his hard core will end. And what does he do in the face of this embarrassment? Tell the Supreme Court what he must condemn and tell the former public prosecutor how he must appeal. Less president, the truth is that he exercises everything.” “Not long ago you asked who would ask the State Attorney General for forgiveness. Considering what we have seen, will you ask the Spaniards for forgiveness?” – asked the leader of the People’s Party.
“Apologizing for saying what you think will happen to you, it doesn’t happen to me because between truth and lies, this government will always be on the side of the truth”, responded the Prime Minister, who underlined that the Executive “obeys the Supreme Court ruling” on García Ortiz and that “fortunately Spain and Europe have judicial systems that guarantee guarantees”, so he is “convinced” that “time will put things in their place”.
The leader of the popular parties then disgraced Sánchez for having been against the sentence without knowing it and, therefore, believes that Sánchez “is increasingly dangerous for democracy”. “If Spain had a normal situation, you would respect the judges, you would govern in Parliament, they would approve the Budgets, there would be a debate on the state of the nation every year and you would deal with the problems of the Spanish people, that is, housing, basket prices, immigration and poverty. But what normality do you guarantee if you are only physically here? Because your mind is at the doors of the Supreme Court to see what will happen tomorrow. What really worries you is that the prison doors will open again so that one of they can come in,” Feijóo snapped before specifying that “being the only free person in the group, he can always say that he didn’t know them at all.”
“Can’t you govern without being assisted by an alleged trusted criminal?” Feijóo began by specifying that “governing is not living in the Palace, it is not controlling public television or the rest of the institutions, the Spaniards have already overcome this 50 years ago”. The leader of the People’s Party underlined that “one day a series about his years as president will be filmed” and, now out of time and with the microphone off, he suggested a title: “Anatomy of an impostor”, in reference to the series Anatomy of a moment, based on the book by Javier Cercas, circa 23-F.
“They do not propose anything,” Sánchez said in his response, before underlining that “the left asks for neither permission nor forgiveness to govern. And there are the results of the management of this government: 22 million employed, which are growing at a rate that no other economy in Europe is growing and which reduce the deficit and public debt.” “I understand that you must support Mrs. Ayuso. The first point of the contract you signed with her is blind obedience,” Sánchez said at the end of his speech.
The People’s Party asked the Government again through its spokeswoman, Ester Muñoz, who accused the first vice president and finance minister of “impoverishing workers and putting Spain in debt” and asked her if she knows what the average salary in the country is. “Do you know how much a dozen eggs, a liter of oil, a kilo of meat costs? How long has it been since you looked for an apartment to rent or something simpler like getting gas?” asked the popular deputy.
Montero responded by quoting several international media headlines about Spain: “The country that will grow the most among the five large economies of the European Union, according to the International Monetary Fund. The country that creates the most jobs in the European Union. The country that will close this year with a smaller deficit than Germany. The country that has just achieved an improvement in its public debt. The one that has reduced temporary work thanks to labor reform. The country that leads the Iberian exception to limit energy prices. The first. lead the international recognition of the Palestinian State The leading country in the expansion of equal rights and marriage freedoms The country that expands birth permits.
