A total crisis occurred in Bastia. Stuck in the red zone since the first day of the season, Sporting is in last place in the Ligue 2 standings and just lost an important match this Tuesday night.
Against Laval, penultimate before the kick-off of this match at the end of the 11th day was postponed a month due to the adverse weather conditions that hit Corsica this autumn, the occupants of the Furiani stadium sparked the anger of their supporters by losing for the tenth time in fifteen games.
When the final whistle sounded, Dominique Guidi and his colleagues tried to go around the stadium to apologize to the public. An approach was quickly called off as taunts added to the throwing of chairs and smoke bombs at the players, forcing them to return to the changing rooms before arriving at the ultra stand level.
Laval buses were targeted
Bastia’s anger was also expressed outside the stadium. As shown in images taken by Ouest-France and France 3 Régions Corse, the fire broke out near the stables. The cause: rubbish bins were set on fire by 400 fans who had gathered behind the gate separating them from the outdoor parking lot, where the buses of both teams, including those of Laval’s players, were the target of the smoke.
Originally scheduled for 24 October, the match between Bastia and Laval could not be played on the correct date due to Hurricane Benjamin grounding the Tangos plane. Controversy immediately ensued, with the Corsican club believing that it was not a “case of force majeure”, as several planes had landed at Bastia on the same day.
The LFP decided to reschedule the meeting despite the desire of Bastia leaders to achieve victory on the green carpet. “Sporting condemns the unjustified decision that goes against the established rules. There are no serious grounds to support this postponement, a decision taken outside the regulatory framework,” reacted the Ligue 2 red lantern.
In the thick of the game, Bastia folded before and after the break, crucified in this fearless match by Layousse Samb (39th) and Malik Tchokounté through penalties (58th).
