The accounts of Spain’s largest cancer research center will be investigated by the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office. The agency will open investigations into alleged hiring irregularities at the National Center for Cancer Research (CNIO), as announced ABC and EL PAÍS confirmed.
The organization’s former director, Juan Arroyo, and other employees are accused of directing an alleged scheme of rigged and inflated contracts awarded to friendly companies, according to a complaint filed by a former CNIO director who was fired. According to the former manager’s calculations, around 20 million euros could be stolen from the CNIO’s public coffers in a decade.
