President Claudia Sheinbaum took a position on the latest involvement of Morenoist senator Gerardo Fernández Noroña, who defined Grecia Quiroz, mayor of Uruapan and widow of Carlos Manzo, “ambitious” and “fascist” for the accusations she makes regarding the murder of her husband. “There has to be sensitivity, if there is an issue of political debate, that’s another issue. Everything in its time,” Sheinbaum said in her morning press conference, recalling that Quiroz just lost her husband and we must stand in solidarity “whether you agree with it or not.” Noroña confirmed her statements in a press conference in which she linked Quiroz to the far right and accused her of “wanting to destabilize the country” with the latest anti-government marches that took place in the streets of Mexico.

Noroña had previously attacked the mayor of Uruapan on her social networks, where in a video she had defined Quiroz’s requests to investigate Senator Raúl Morón Orozco and federal deputy Leonel Godoy Rangel as “irresponsible” and “political” in the case of her husband’s murder. “Her political ambition has awakened and she is aiming for the governorship of Michoacán,” Noroña said in this regard, warning that the right will support her because “it needs fascist figures” with popular support. Sheinbaum called for respect for the slain mayor’s widow, rebuking the statements of Noroña, who has been involved in several political scandals in recent months that have made his party and the president uncomfortable.
