That SPD has awarded the Regine Hildebrandt Prize to three initiatives from Brandenburg, Bavaria and Saxony. The Grandmothers of the Right in Potsdam and Bamberg and the Dresden music project Musaik were honored in the spirit of former Brandenburg Minister of Social Affairs Hildebrandt – for their work for democracy, social justice and solidarity. Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania Prime Minister Manuela Schwesig (SPD) honored the award winners as patron and head of the jury.
Two gifts for grandma on the right
According to SPD, the Grandmas Against the Right initiative from Potsdam has been committed to democracy, tolerance and diversity since 2019. This network is their initiative. Brandenburg developed. Brandenburg’s Minister of Culture Manja Schüle (SPD) presented the award to the group.
In the Bamberg district, around 200 right-wing grandmothers have been fighting against racism, anti-Semitism and misogyny since 2021 through demonstrations and workshops. Bavaria SPD leader Ronja Endres paid tribute to the women of Bavaria.
The Musaik project has enabled children and teenagers in Dresden to take free music lessons in the orchestra since 2016. The girls and boys are supported by musicians from the Staatskapelle Dresden. Former Saxon SPD state leader Martin Dulig gave a speech of praise.
Hildebrand is considered the “Mother of Eastern Courage”
Regine Hildebrandt was Minister of Labor and Social Affairs in the last GDR government and later in the state government in Brandenburg. She was nicknamed the “Eastern Mother of Courage” because of her social commitment and open nature. Hildebrandt died in 2001.
