Restructuring at the British racing team: top engineer Adrian Newey promoted. The previous team boss took on a different role.
The Aston Martin Formula 1 racing team is setting its course for the future: from next season, star designer Adrian Newey will take on the role of team boss. The team from Silverstone announced this on Wednesday.
Newey, who unexpectedly moved from Red Bull to Aston Martin last year, will also lead the technical team in the future – including racing operations. This restructuring is part of the strategic realignment of the racing team.
Previous team boss and CEO Andy Cowell took over as head of strategy. With these changes, Aston Martin wants to prepare as best as possible for the rule reforms for the 2026 season. Then new technical specifications come into force – this could significantly change the balance of power in Formula 1.
“Over the past nine months, I have seen great individual talent on our team. I am excited to take on this additional role,” said Newey. The goal is to “put yourself in the best position to compete in 2026.” In regards to the upcoming changes, Newey spoke of a “huge challenge” and a “completely new situation” for the team.
