When it rains, the water flows. After the painful defeat in the Madonnina derby, Inter seems to have recovered from Atletico Madrid and won significant points from the Metropolitano. But in the end, one interlude from a free-kick in full stoppage time he condemned eleven Chivu players to a defeat they perhaps did not deserve after a superb second half. Even though they lost, Inter still survived at least on the top floor from the single group of the Champions League and can concretely hope for the last 16.
The match was played with high intensity straight downhill for Simeone’s eleven goals when, in the 9th minute, Julian Alvarez repeated Carlos Augusto’s foul throw into the net. Inter reacted but were a bit confused until they returned from the dressing room, when the Nerazzurri they sit on chairs and they found an equalizer with a combination of Bonny and Zielinski scoring the equaliser. Just as the Nerazzurri looked like they had just snatched an important draw at home, there was interference from Griezmann’s corner and a superb header from the Atletico captain to thank. 2-1 definitive.
Atletico has the advantage but Inter is there
Departure very aggressive The eleven Chivu players at the Metropolitano showed how much they wanted revenge after the defeat in the derby. Within minutes, Dimarco first challenged Musso with a free kick, then made good use of Captain Lautaro’s pass to fire the ball wide of the post. THAT colchonerosHowever, they certainly weren’t watching: in the 6th minute a dangerous cross from Molina which Alvarez failed to reach. If the Nerazzurri tried to counter-attack, with Bonny providing a fine pass for Lautaro’s shot, then it would be the hosts. find the network in the 9th minute with the former Manchester City man: Carlos Augusto cleared a dangerous cross but the ball, after bouncing off Baena’s body, remained there where Alvarez managed to arrive before anyone else. The Madrid public passed by from happy to angry in a few seconds, enough time to realize how the action was stopped by a touch of the hand: the most furious, as always, was Cholo Simeon. In the end, the referee consulted VAR and, after nearly five minutes of waiting, change mind and validating Atletico’s superiority. The Nerazzurri’s response came through a fine long-range strike from Calhanoglu, which was saved without major problems by Musso but Chivu’s eleventh strike work a lot to find the key to problems in very intense matches.
There were those who protested in the 27th minute, when Simeone go down to the area after contact with Bastoni: Mr Letexier was in a good position and decided that the defender’s intervention was lawful. After an almost frenetic start, the intervening moments in the match: if it was Inter who emphasized greater continuity in attack, Atletico Madrid It seems to be able to survive without risking much in defense. In the 37th minute, new contact between Simeone and Bastoni: Letexier first invited the Argentinian to get up and stop complaining, then refused the request for a yellow card for simulation made by captain Lautaro. The end of the first half was enlivened by Bisseck’s initiative, which freed Dimarco to shoot with a good heel kick: his left foot was not bad but, however, ends out of nowhere. Fully recovered, Sommer was forced to take a far from ordinary route to prevent Baena from scoring a double: after 49 minutes of play. frenetic rhythmthe referee decided that this was enough and sent everyone to the dressing room.
Zielinski takes it back, final taunt
There was no change in the first half but Inter came out of the dressing room in good spirits, creating their best chance after less than a minute: quick, vertical action, a fine throw from Bastoni that Barella controlled and acrobatically headed towards goal. The parabola looks perfect but the sphere is imprinted at the intersection of its poles. As seen in Milan, Chivu’s eleven played their game, with the hosts content to control the Nerazzurri’s bursts and look to attack on the counter-attack. The first half was electric and balanced, the second half seemed to be played in the Atletico Madrid defense area, Inter were forced into the trenches. Around the 50th minute, the Nerazzurri went close several times: Musso came out beautifully through the usual Dimarco, launched well by Lautaro Martinez but the home team seemed to have given up the game. In the long run the red and white fortress collapsed thanks to a combination on the left between Bonny and Zielinski: the former Napoli player entered the penalty box and hit Musso with an unmatched shot. Atletico tried to react but there was a lot of unease on the pitch: in the 54th minute there was a half-hearted brawl on the pitch when Akanji stopped Giuliano Simeone in very energetic fashion. The Atletico coach decided to shuffle the cards: the exits of Molina, Gallagher and Cardoso, space for Koke, Pubill and former Juventus player Nico Gonzales. There wasn’t even time to adjust to the field and me Colchoneros they created perhaps the best chance of the night: Ruggeri’s cross from the left, Simeone centered himself and volleyed but couldn’t keep the ball low.

When Baena attempted a curling shot from outside the box, Chivu understood that it was time to bring new strength to the battlefield: after Akanji sacrificed himself to stop Baena’s shot, the coach recalled Zielinski and Bonny to the bench, introducing Sucic and Thuram. ThuLa soon emerged, with the Frenchman’s volley meeting Bisseck’s cross providing a decent ball to the captain, whose shot was deflected for a corner. Simeone was at his best in the final 22 minutes, bringing on Sorloth and Griezmann for Ruggeri and Baena. Inter spent a lot of time leading up to the match struggling to respond blow by blow to the aggressiveness of Madrid’s players: Chivu noticed this and brought on Pio Esposito and Frattesi for Lautaro and Calhanoglu. But the match inertia does not change, with i Colchoneros who dominated long distance and wide, forcing the Nerazzurri to tighten up in defence. In the 77th minute Sommer saved at Griezmann’s near post but a few minutes later it took a dangerous defensive intervention from Nico Gonzales to prevent the Nerazzurri from taking the lead. The final minutes saw a flurry of attacks between the two teams: while Inter were dangerous through Luis Henrique and Akanji, Atletico almost scored when Bastoni prevented Griezmann from getting Sommer’s short rebound into the net. In the end, Inter created several chances but were unable to achieve a knockout victory: in stoppage time, it was the mistake that allowed Simeone’s eleven to take home the three points: with a corner kick lightly received by Akanji, Gimenez struck higher than anyone else and scored to make it 2-1.
