The National Police have arrested at least one Rayo Vallecano ultra, the so-called Bukaneros, who on Wednesday evening staged a violent clash around the Vallecas stadium with radical fans of Lech Poznan, the Polish team with which Rayo will play this Thursday in a Conference League match.
Police sources informed EFE that around 11.30pm, around the Vallecas stadium, in the streets of Medina de la Albufera and Buenos Aires, dozens of ultras from both teams “met” to confront the violence. Dozens of National Police officers deployed in the area contained the clashes and dissolved the Polish radicals, resulting in the arrest of a Spanish citizen and the wounding of another.
The match that Rayo Vallecano and Lech Poznan will play in the group stage of the UEFA Conference League starting at 9pm. this Thursday is classified as high risk by the Anti-Violence Commission. The government delegation in Madrid organized a security operation consisting of over 400 police officers and emergency personnel. 745 season-ticket fans of the Polish team are expected, out of a total capacity of 14,880 people.
The operation, which will have the task of monitoring the areas surrounding the Vallecano stadium to prevent accidents, will be made up of agents from the National Police – from the Police Intervention Unit, the Special Cavalry Unit, the Provincial Information Brigade and the Mobile Brigade -; of the Municipal Police of Madrid; members of SAMUR-Civil Protection; of the Fire Brigade, security guards and assistants of the football club. The presence of security guards will also be strengthened in the Metro service. To speed up the work of the officers, it is recommended that all those present at the stadium arrive early to pass the required security checks.
