The trial against the brother of the President of the Government, David Sánchez, and the leader of the PSOE of Extremadura and former president of the Badajoz council, Miguel Ángel Gallardo, already has a date. It will be held from 9 to 14 February next year.
Last Monday, Sánchez presented his defense brief before judge Beatriz Biedma, investigator of the case who put him on the bench for his alleged direct employment in the Provincial Council of Badajoz, in which he questions the legality of one of the investigative procedures: the intervention of the Central Operational Unit (UCO) of the Civil Guard on thousands of emails that the defendants sent and received while the creation and assignment of the job they ended up occupy.
In his writing, just two pages long, Pedro Sánchez’s relative insisted that the facts of which he is accused do not constitute any crime and that, therefore, he should be acquitted. Together with him, 10 other people will also be tried – including the leader of the PSOE of Extremadura, Miguel Ángel Gallardo – accused of the crimes of administrative abuse and influence peddling for the alleged irregularities in the hiring of David Sánchez in the Badajoz delegation in 2017 and of a former worker of the Palace of La Moncloa years later. The popular accusations foresee him being in prison for three years for these facts.
