Pedro Sánchez took advantage of his presence at the UN climate summit, the COP, at the mouth of the Amazon, to send a message to the PP from the Brazilian city of Belém: call elections in the Valencian Community instead of agreeing with Vox and its climate denialism in a land particularly affected by the climate emergency, as the dana of Valencia demonstrated. Sánchez has thus entered fully into Valencian politics while the PP and Vox negotiate the replacement of Carlos Mazón, who announced his resignation on Monday, published on Friday in the BOE.
“I express my concern that the PP and Vox negotiations in the Valencian Community lead to the dismantling of the entire climate agenda in an area, the Mediterranean, and especially in this community, which is clearly affected by this climate emergency,” began the president in his speech before the media. And he immediately traced the line of what will be a central element of the left’s campaign if elections finally take place because PP and Vox fail to reach an agreement. “The problem was not only Mazón and his negligence, but also a denialist parliamentary majority that minimized and frivolous the response to the climate emergency. More than 230 people have suffered due to negligence and this denialism. If there is something to fear, it is Abascal’s denialism and not the voice of the citizens. This is why the PSOE is calling for elections to break this denialist majority and so that there can be a more committed future in favor of science and reason. Valencian Community,” he said. finished.
Sánchez, who shares with President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva the fight against climate change in the face of the setback proposed by Donald Trump, also sent a message to Junts, who on Thursday threatened to block the legislature and presented amendments to all 25 laws of the PSOE and Sumar in Congress. The president of the government is convinced that we can continue until 2027 and, above all, that this block does not put European funds at risk. The president significantly downplayed the issue and expressed his confidence that we can get out of this situation through dialogue. In reality, the PSOE has already begun to unblock some Junts laws, such as the one against multiple recidivism, which were waiting in a drawer of Congress. Sánchez sent a message to independence supporters to return to negotiations and not block the legislature.
“Spain is experiencing one of its best moments in 45 years, with the creation of jobs, the reduction of inequalities, which is one of the big problems, with greater international projection, with social peace. And we achieved this with a lot of dialogue and the ability to reach agreements. All this effort of dialogue, of not imposing, of building and sharing, is the recipe that we will follow in the next two years”, he assured, taking it for granted that he will exhaust the legislature. “I take what the parliamentary groups say very seriously,” he said, referring to Junts’ demands, “but I think it’s worth it, the results are there, Spain is going through one of the best moments in its history,” he insisted.
Sánchez does not see European funds at risk. In fact, Junts will approve the law on sustainable mobility, already agreed and on which a sum of up to 10 billion euros depends. “The Spanish government is the one that has provided the most funds throughout the EU. These funds explain the growth and modification of the productive fabric that we are experiencing. And it will continue to be like this. It is worth it, the government takes the fulfillment of its commitments seriously, I hope that all groups do their part”, says Sánchez.
The PSOE leader insists he will present the budgets – which Junts assures he will overturn – but gives no dates for doing so. “The Government will present the Budgets, we will sweat our shirts, but with or without Budgets, Spain will continue to advance and the Government will consolidate its roadmap until 2027. We will talk to all the groups and we will govern for all the territories”, he concluded.
Asked about the situation of his brother, who will be tried from February 9 to 14 along with 10 other people, Sánchez insisted on the innocence of his wife and brother, now that there is a date for the latter’s oral trial, and confirmed his support for the attorney general, whose trial is taking place in these days. “The Attorney General has our trust, we believe in his innocence, I hope that time will put things right,” the prime minister said.
