Keynes did not take this hypothesis into consideration when he came to Madrid in June 1930 – just over a century ago – to give a lecture entitled The economic possibilities of our grandchildren in the Student Residence. The brilliant Cambridge economist arrived accompanied by his wife Lidia Lopujova, a dancer in Diaghilev’s ballet, and was invited by the Duke of Alba, Minister of Education in the Berenguer government.
