The minister justified the expected problems with a lack of personnel among air traffic controllers. Because they are currently not being paid due to the budget freeze, only “very few” are coming to work. This would lead to fewer departures and landings and result in “massive disruption and a lot of angry Americans,” Duffy said.
Thanksgiving is the most important family celebration in the US and a national holiday. There is usually a lot of traffic on the roads and at the airport around the festival. This year Thanksgiving falls on November 27th.
