Democratic Republic of the Congo: new fighting in South Kivu

New clashes occurred again in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The fighting took place on the Fizi and Mwenga plateaus, in the eastern province of South Kivu. The Twirwaneho rebel group, which is close to M23, and the regular army, backed by Burundi, clashed. According to local sources, at least ten people died in the fighting, and the rebels conquered several villages. The clashes came after a month of relative calm in the country, achieved after peace talks between M23 rebels and the central government.
