Genoa-Fiorentina 2-2, De Rossi and Vanoli equal debut – Il Tempo

GENOA (ITALPRESS) – The survival match between Genoa and Fiorentina ended 2-2, giving one point each to Vanoli and De Rossi, both making their debut. What decided a purely episodic match were Ostigard and Colombo’s goals for Genoa and Gudmundsson (from a penalty) and Piccoli for Fiorentina. The team from Tuscany is still without a win in Serie A: the injured Kean did not take the field today. At Ferraris, it was a debut match on the bench, as within a week both clubs announced their new coaches. Unlike Vanoli, De Rossi watched his team from the stands, because they had been disqualified since last season. The main emotions of the first half are summed up in five minutes. Genoa were the first team to score, making perfect use of a free kick from right midfield in the 15th minute. On Martin’s cross, the Viola back line failed to reach a line move and Ostigard, who remained in the game, scored 1-0 with an undisturbed header in front of De Gea. However, the guests’ reaction was not long in coming. In fact, just two minutes had passed, Piccoli did not connect the assist with Gudmundsson’s kiss, which was then deflected into a corner by Marcandalli. From the flag came an episode that brought the match back into balance, because on the next serve in the area, the ball was intercepted by Colombo’s very wide and outstretched arms. Guida blew the penalty and the former Gudmundsson calmly scored 1-1 from the penalty spot.
In the second half, Fiorentina managed to equalize in the 57th minute thanks to Piccoli who served Sohm after a save from Marcandalli. Even so, Tuscan superiority did not last long. After having their penalty saved by De Gea early in the second half, Colombo redeemed their nightmare by scoring a 2-2 goal. The striker scored from underneath, ending a confusing move in the Viola area: De Gea was to blame as he was slow to return to goal after coming out. In a very exciting final, both teams have the opportunity to take home three points. Fiorentina didn’t give up and almost overtook again in the 74th minute, when Leali saved Piccoli’s effort. Not to be outdone by Rossoblù goalkeeper De Gea who, after having his penalty saved, flew over to meet substitute Masini’s shot off goal in the 91st minute.
