The top match of the Premier League is a show of strength. Manchester City did not give Liverpool FC a chance and deepened the Reds’ crisis in the league. National player Florian Wirtz put in a disappointing performance.
Liverpool FC experienced another bitter setback in the Premier League. With German international Florian Wirtz in the starting line-up, the Reds suffered a bitter 0:3 (0:2) defeat at Manchester City. The hosts’ goals were scored by the excellent Erling Haaland (29th minute), Nico González (45+3) and Jeremy Doku (63).
Liverpool coach Arne Slot sent the same line-up onto the pitch that won 1-0 against Real Madrid in the Champions League during the week. ManCity, who beat Borussia Dortmund 4-0, started the match better in front of their own fans.
Only eleven minutes had passed, coach Pep Guardiola awarded the team a penalty kick. But Liverpool goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili, who touched Doku and led to the penalty, parried a superb weak shot from former Dortmund man Haaland.
The Norwegian righted his mistake after half an hour with a long-delayed opener. A supposed equalizer ten minutes later by Virgil van Dijk was not counted due to an offside position – a controversial decision. Spaniard Nico González then added to the scoreline for the hosts just before the break.
Documentation makes decisions
At the start of the second half, Liverpool improved significantly, controlling more of the ball and increasing the pressure on Man City. But the goal fell on the other side. Belgium’s Doku, involved in some dangerous action, made it 3-0 to City after the hour.
Liverpool then repeatedly appeared dangerous in front of City goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma’s goal, but the Reds were unable to score another goal. Liverpool are eight points behind leaders Arsenal, who only managed a 2-2 draw at AFC Sunderland thanks to a late goal. Second-placed Manchester City, on the other hand, is four points adrift of the league leaders.
