Sometimes the truth hurts: Uschi Glas spoke in an interview about his father and revealed his role in the Second World War.
Do families talk about the Second World War and the lives of those closest to them at that time? Acting icon Uschi Glas, who spoke out about the scandal a few months ago, weighed in on the question. In early 2025 he hired a genealogist. And he revealed that his father was a member of the Waffen-SS.
Uschi Glas’ father was a member of the NSDAP and Waffen-SS
Glass’s father never spoke about the war and his mother avoided the children’s questions, as the actress explained to “Bild”. So, years later, he did his own research. “That’s the painful truth,” said Uschi Glas, who, as he said several years ago, was “afraid” of his father. “But I want to know. I don’t want to press it any longer.”
His father Christian Glas joined the NSDAP on 1 December 1931 – two years before Adolf Hitler came to power. He was then drafted into the army and had to fight. In 1944 Christian Glas joined the Waffen-SS. He is a member of the “Skanderbeg” division. It was responsible for war crimes in the Balkans and the deportation of several hundred Jews – but this was before Glas was assigned to the division as a radio operator. There is no evidence that Christian Glas was involved in war crimes.
