Thomas Müller currently plays in North America. But at FC Bayern they are already thinking about his return – and they have a very special position in mind.
FC Bayern Munich could be led by Thomas Müller in the future. President Herbert Hainer did not rule out the possibility that the former record player would one day rise to the top of the club.
In an interview with “Abendzeitung”, Hainer outlined various scenarios for Müller’s return: The 36-year-old could work in operations, act as ambassador, or potentially take over the presidency. “He knows the club inside and out. He is a smart and intelligent person who now has experience abroad. So there is a lot to recommend him,” explained Hainer.
The Bayern president sees his current position in the North American MLS league in particular as a valuable foundation for Müller’s development. His commitment to the Vancouver Whitecaps makes the former national player more mature, more international and more experienced. Hainer stressed his desire to see Müller back with the German record champions someday – regardless of the specific position.
Karl-Heinz Rummenigge’s supervisory board has previously spoken out in favor of the long-standing player’s return. Müller himself was cautious: speaking at the Bayerischer Rundfunk a few weeks ago, he described such considerations as something that would happen in the future. Even though he already knows his strengths, it is still unclear whether he wants to work as a coach or official.
After his contract expired in the summer, Müller left Munich and joined the Vancouver Whitecaps. During his time at FC Bayern, he became the player with the most appearances in the club’s history and collected a number of titles.
