Motorway projects: Further construction of the A20 is getting closer – a deal with BUND is on the horizon

Contributing to the continued development of the A20, which has been controversial for many years Bad Segeberg a solution emerged. As “SHZ” reports, the environmental association BUND and Schleswig-Holstein Transport Minister Claus Ruhe Madsen (CDU) have negotiated an agreement that is ready to be signed.

In it, BUND promised to withdraw its lawsuit against the construction of the ten-kilometer section of the A20 from Weede to Wittenborn. In return, the report says, the state pays for more bat protection in the region.

Those involved did not provide any details, but they confirmed the extensive agreement to the newspaper’s publisher. “We have resolved important matters – now it is up to our cabinet and committees to resolve these issues,” BUND managing director Ole Eggers told SHZ.

Minister Madsen stressed that we are on a very good track “- but the last few meters remain to be overcome by both sides in the next few days”.

According to the article, the black-and-green cabinet in Kiel and the BUND state executive council are scheduled to approve the negotiated agreement on Tuesday. The settlement could then be announced on Wednesday. BUND then wanted to withdraw the lawsuit it filed with the Federal Administrative Court in Leipzig in May.

Further construction stopped in 2013

For more than ten years, the coastal highway ended east of Bad Segeberg. In 2013, the Federal Administrative Court stopped further construction. The judges said protection against bats was not taken into account enough. Segeberger Kalkberghöhlen is considered the largest bat hibernation site in Germany.
