It’s time for the first appraisal for the Shein store in Paris. Five days after its inauguration, “more than 50,000 visitors” pushing through the brand’s swinging doors, according to Frédéric Merlin, boss of Société des Grands Magasins (SGM) which owns BHV. “The faces, the laughs and the real curiosity. The average basket is 45 euros, and almost 15% of them continue their purchases in other departments.assured the manager in a published post on his Instagram account, on Sunday, November 9 evening.
And to add: “In the online world, almost 80% of Shein’s customers are women. But in physical trading, the situation is different. We come as couples, with friends, as a family. And this direct contact reveals another reality: a more diverse society that is rediscovering the joy of buying together.” Moreover, he said he wanted to “expands this capsule with a more complete men’s offering, a kids’ area, a wider selection of clothing and more accessible basics to suit all lifestyles.”
The inauguration caused a stir after online sales on the Shein China platform from child pornography dolls, as well as category A weapons. After removing all prohibited products from its site, Shein has for now escaped suspension in France, but remains “under strict supervision” government and still have to undergo legal processes.
Regarding online sales platforms, a new situation update is planned next week at the request of Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu, while the Interior Ministry seized a Paris court on Friday for “put an end to the serious damage to public order caused by Shein’s repeated failures.”
After Paris, Shein will soon open stores in Grenoble (Isère), Reims (Marne), Anger(New window) (Maine-et-Loire), Dijon (Côte-d’Or) and Limoges (Haute-Vienne).
