Rio de Janeiro, November 10 (Adnkronos) – Prince William has spoken openly about Kate’s battle with cancer, King Charles’ illness and the challenges of parenting. In an interview with Brazilian TV presenter Luciano Huck, the Prince of Wales revealed that he had opened up to his children George, Charlotte and Louis about the health problems that befell their mother and grandfather. “We have decided to tell our children everything, both good news and bad news. We explain to them why certain things happen and why they may feel upset – said the heir to the throne – Many questions cannot be answered: I believe that all parents experience this situation. There are no rules for being parents, and we prefer to talk about everything”.
William then went on to provide a glimpse into family life behind palace walls, talking about how he and Kate take their children to school and try to be there as often as possible: “I take the kids to school most days, me and Katherine split the duties, but she probably does most of the work.” The Prince of Wales also revealed the couple’s cautious approach to technology, confirming that neither of the children own a mobile phone. “It’s very difficult. Our children don’t have telephones,” he explained. “When George gets to high school, he’ll probably get one with limited access. We talked to him and explained why we don’t think that’s right. With full access, kids end up seeing things on the internet that they shouldn’t. But with limited access, I think it’s great for messaging.”
During the interview, filmed in Rio de Janeiro for the program Domingão Huck, the host warmly welcomed William on behalf of the Brazilian people and presented him with a photograph of his late mother, Princess Diana, taken during her visit to São Paulo in 1991. The image shows Diana holding an HIV-infected child, a gesture that helped break the taboo surrounding the disease at the time. “He became a very important figure in the fight against prejudice,” Huck said. William replied: “I carry his social and humanitarian legacy every day.”
