A deer’s hike through the historic center of Zamora causes a stir and ends in a parking lot | Spain

A deer entered the streets of Zamora in the early afternoon of this Sunday, November 9, to take refuge in a public car park in the historic center. The adventure ended more than four hours later, with the animal recovering from some wounds after being sedated, and subsequently released into a natural area.

Around 3:00 pm the animal entered the urban area from the Valorio forest and entered several streets to end up in a municipal underground car park. According to sources from the Department of Citizen Protection of Zamora and the 112 Emergency Service of Castilla and León, during that trip up to eight people were surprised by the animal and called 112, without it attacking any of them.

Once in the car park, the officers of the Municipal Police, the Municipal Police and the Fire Brigade who rushed to the area blocked access with their vehicles to prevent him from leaving the car park. At that moment, the veterinary services of the Municipality and the Regional Council of Castilla and León were notified, who brought anesthetic darts which they then shot with a blowgun to put the animal to sleep.

Around 7.30pm, once the deer had been sedated and some of its injuries had been treated, the animal was moved by the firefighters to a natural area where it would not have been in danger of being released.

The Councilor for Citizen Protection of the Municipality of Zamora, David Gago, thanked the collaboration of the police, the firefighters, the veterinarians of the wild animal recovery center of Villaralbo and the Cobadu cooperative, the operators of the municipal public car park and the rest of the professionals who attended.

Gago also apologized to the people “affected by this anomalous event”, who had their cars in the parking lot and had to wait for the deer to be sedated and treated before they could remove them. The affected users were not charged for the tourist ticket, as clarified by the mayor.
