Ukraine has once again attacked Russia’s strategically important oil depots in Crimea.
The Ukrainian military is said to have attacked a Russian oil depot near the village of Gvardeyskoe on the Russian-occupied Crimean peninsula. This was reported by the Russian Telegram channel Astra. Residents reported several explosions near the depot, and reports of broader drone attacks by Ukraine in the area circulated.
The report has not been independently verified and the Ukrainian military has not provided an official comment.
The photo shows a brightly lit sky
According to the Kyiv Independent, the Russian Defense Ministry said that air defenses had shot down ten Ukrainian drones over the peninsula. Photos posted on social media showed a brightly lit night sky over Gvardeyskoe, apparently as a result of an attack on an oil depot.
According to the Kyiv Independent, the oil depot in Gvardeyskoe has been the target of several Ukrainian attacks in recent months. On October 17, Ukrainian special forces confirmed that their drones had damaged the oil depot and nearby facilities. According to the BBC, a video shows the attack from a drone’s perspective.
There is an important air force base nearby
The oil reserves are located near the Gvardeyskoe air base, which is used by Russia as a launch pad for aircraft carrying out attacks on Ukraine. This makes them a recurring target of Ukrainian operations, according to the Kyiv Independent.
Ukraine routinely attacks military and industrial facilities in Russia and Russian-occupied territories. Mainly drones of our own production are used.
