The former premiered its second crime thriller Bremerhaven on Thursday. Investigators are searching for illegal weapons and a missing sailor.
The first airs the second part of the crime series “The Bremerhaven Crime” entitled “Business with Death” on Thursday evenings at 8:15 p.m. The focus is on the search for missing sailors and illegal weaponry.
The plot begins with an anonymous call alerting a special customs unit to organized crime. The container ship “Hundred Waves” is scheduled to arrive in Bremerhaven with a dangerous cargo. However, during the examination, investigators did not find any evidence, but they did find names crossed out on the crew list.
A customs team led by Katta Strüwer (Elena Uhlig), Lisa Cunningham (Cynthia Micas), Gero von Bernbeck (Bernd Hölscher) and Sven-Erik Dröse (Lukas Zumbrock) searched the cabin and scanned 2,700 containers. They suspected illegal military equipment on board the ship and discovered ties to arms dealers, secret deals with Russia and Iran, and Bremerhaven business families.
The film provides insight into the violent world of shipping and criminal activity. Fast cuts, time jumps and location changes create tension. Viewers also learn details about maritime economics and IT forensics.
The shoot was very demanding, as Bremen director Nicolai Rohde explained in an interview. Filming in port is subject to strict requirements. For the sea scenes, the team combined action with animation sequences to depict a sailor falling overboard and floating in the water.
