The national coach provided an injury update on the Dortmund center back. That doesn’t sound good.
National coach Julian Nagelsmann is concerned about the use of national player Nico Schlotterbeck in the final two decisive World Cup qualifying matches. “It got thicker overnight and doesn’t look quite optimal,” Nagelsmanns said of the Borussia Dortmund centre-back’s leg injury at a press conference in Wolfsburg. You’ll have to wait and see how it goes.
Schlotterbeck suffered the injury during the 1-1 away Bundesliga draw against Hamburger SV. HSV professional player Jordan Torunarigha caught his ankle with an outstretched leg. “It was difficult,” stressed Dortmund coach Nico Kovac after the match. Schlotterbeck received treatment for several minutes but then continued playing. He doesn’t blame Torunigha, he said.
First in Luxembourg, then in Leipzig against Slovakia
The DFB selection will be played away on Friday (20.45/RTL) against Luxembourg, bottom of the group with no points. On Monday (20.45/ZDF) next week, Nagelsmann’s team will face Slovakia in Leipzig. Germany leads the Group A standings with nine points ahead of Slovakia and Northern Ireland, who have the same points (6 points).
