Sebastian Fitzek (54) is the best-selling serial actor when it comes to thrillers. His new book “The Neighbor” has been delighting his fans since the end of October. The Berliner spoke to RTL.de about the secrets and rituals of his writing.
Sebastian Fitzek explains how he wrote his book
Sebastian Fitzek appeared in a black t-shirt and gray jacket for “Meet Your Master – learning from the best” by actor Heiner Lauterbach and his partner Viktoria in Munich. In his course, the author tells his participants how anyone can become a book author.
Even though many of his books have become best sellers, he revealed: “No book leaves me 100 percent satisfied. Because there are always things I think I could do better. But then I’m too lazy to rewrite them.” His latest book is about a criminal defense attorney who suffers from a fear of loneliness. After moving to the outskirts of Berlin, she suddenly has invisible neighbors who she knows nothing about – but who won’t leave her alone anymore.

While Fitzek isn’t completely satisfied with his work so far, he does have some principles. For example, he did not accept the assigned work. “Before every book I write, I always ask myself the question: If I could only write one more book in my life, what book would it be? And it’s always the next book I read.”

What star writer Sebastian Fitzek eats while writing
Star writers usually take their ideas from experiences or observations of everyday life. “It’s usually conversations or anecdotes that people tell me. Then an idea pops into my mind. That can take years. But when the idea is ripe, I write an exposé and start writing.”
He sat in his office in Berlin every day for four months. “Creativity comes from writing,” he continued. And maybe other things too. Even though he lacked the actual ritual, he became weak in one respect. “I always eat a piece of children’s chocolate between chapters, that’s why evil tongues say that my chapters are getting shorter. So I can eat more chocolate.”
