Pierce Brosnan reconciles with his son Christopher 20 years after cutting ties with him due to his drug addiction | People

In 2005, Pierce Brosnan (Drogheda, Ireland, 72 years old) revealed in an interview with the magazine Playboy who, after trying for years to save his son Cristopher (London, 52 years old) from drug addiction, had given up. “Christopher is very lost. He’s a shock for everyone, and we know that he is suffering a lot, but we can no longer do anything for him”, said the actor. “It is very painful to interrupt any relationship with a child, but I had to do it. I told him to get up and do something with his life or wait for death,” were his harsh statements. What could be interpreted as a desperate and frustrated bluff by a father materialized in 20 years of estrangement in which father and son were never seen together again – except for one Before which the whole family attended in 2006 and a Paul McCartney concert in which they coincided in 2007 – until November 8, when they were photographed leaving a family dinner in the Notting Hill district of London.

The images, published exclusively by Mirrorshows the actor James Bond walking with Cristopher and his brother Dylan (California, 28 years old). Brosnan has five children: Sean, Christopher and Charlotte, the result of his marriage to the late actress Cassandra Harris – he adopted the two children that Harris had with her previous husband, who died in 1986, Christopher and Charlotte, but the latter died in 2013 due to ovarian cancer, like her mother; and Dylan and Paris, from his current marriage to journalist Keely Shaye Smith, whom he married in 2001. “They seemed happy and relaxed sitting with Dylan, another of Brosnan’s children. Pierce and Christopher’s problems are well known, but it seems they have managed to overcome them. It was very nice to see them together,” a witness at the scene commented to the British media.

Cristopher, who worked as an assistant director on many of his father’s films, such as Robinson Crusoe OR Tomorrow never dieshe was addicted to cocaine and heroin and once fell into a coma from an overdose. He was subsequently admitted to a rehabilitation clinic which cost 500 pounds a day, around 570 euros. In 1997, he was jailed for three months for drink-driving after being fined £1,000 the previous year for the same offence. “I can only have a lot of faith and believe that he will recover. He has tested everyone in this family, but no one more than himself. He knows how to escape. He doesn’t want to,” his father scolded him in the interview with Playboy two decades ago.

In 2022, the interpreter seemed to have publicly patched things up with his adopted son with a message published on his Instagram profile, with 2.1 million followers, on the occasion of Father’s Day. “My love forever to you, dear children, Paris, Dylan, Sean and Christopher, thank you so deeply for your love,” she wrote alongside an image in which she posed smiling with Paris, Dylan and Sean, but there was no sign of Christopher.

The year in which Pierce Brosnan said he would break off any relationship with Christopher, in 2005, he participated in the second edition of The Island of Lovea program designed for unknown singles who want to find love. It was also the year in which he was involved in the most riots: first he was involved in a massive brawl at a London nightclub where he was banned from entering, then he was arrested for robbery at another club (the charges were later dropped), he took part in a mass brawl at Browns nightclub – where he was also banned from entering -, and he was arrested for possession of heroin.

Two decades later, images of Christopher walking the streets of London accompanied by his father and brother show him calm and happy. Even though it took 20 years for father and son to be together again, his brothers maintained their relationship with him. In 2015, for example, Cristopher returned to being an assistant director after 16 years without working, and he did so on a short film starring his brother Sean, My lady.
