Pérez Llorca: “No one told me I should be a candidate for the Valencian Generalitat”

The PP deputy in the Valencian Cortes Juanfran Pérez Llorca, one of the names being talked about to replace Carlos Mazón at the helm of the Valencian Generalitat, clarified that “it is up to the national leadership of the PP to propose a candidate” for the position, but assured that no one has told him that it will be. However, he declared that he felt “capable of working to complete the task” entrusted to him by the PP. He provided no details about the deal with Vox, which he says he was unaware of, and maintained that these contacts must be discreet.

“Nobody told me that I should run,” he said, but ruled out that this meant there was an “internal war” within the PP for the position. “It only means that a serious party like the PP must make conscientious decisions, because electing the president of the Generalitat is not trivial,” he said. When asked if he will be the candidate, he encouraged him to turn to the national leadership, but declared that he felt “capable of working to complete the task” entrusted to him by the PP.

He also avoided answering whether it is the popular national leadership or the Valencian one that negotiates with Vox for the replacement. He provided no details about the deal with Vox, which he says he was unaware of, and maintained that these contacts must be discreet.

Pérez Llorca assured that he was not aware of the meeting that took place on Friday in Valencia and in which Ignacio Garriga participated on behalf of Vox, but admitted that relations with the national leadership are fluid. The same spokesperson spoke with Alberto Núñez Feijóo and the secretary general, conversations in which, according to Pérez Llorca, no one told him that he will be the candidate.

As for the conditions that Vox has set for giving its support to the PP – restrictions on immigration or suppression of the green pact against climate change – he avoided answering specific questions, but defended the agreement reached months ago for the budgets of the Valencian Community, in which the PP has already given in to many of Vox’s postulates. “In the Community there is a particularity, which is the reconstruction after the damage of a year ago and to date PP and Vox have been able to give priority to this, approving a budget and giving stability to the Cortes. It is important that this stability is not lost,” he said.
