“I saw a kitten in front of me on the highway with its paws up, I ignored it but then I felt uncomfortable. It ran under my car, then I stopped”: the story of Liah and Cliff

The story told by a Canadian couple in Ontario, Canada touched the hearts of many users. Canyon He was driving on Route 2 between Kingston and Gananoque when he noticed a small, blurry spot on the highway. It was the morning of September 1, and as he got closer, the man saw a small cat, big enough to fit in the palm of his hand, with its front paws raised as if it was trying to stop a passing car. “At first, I just forgot about it – recalled the guy on Reddit – but after about 20 seconds, I felt uncomfortable. When I was about to pull over, the cat ran under my carLuckily, a passing truck driver stopped to block the road, so Cliff was able to retrieve the kitten safely.

On the way home, Cliff called his wife and said, “Please get some hot water. I rescued a very small kitten and I don’t know if I can save it.” Thanks to the couple’s quick actions, the kitten survived. They called her “Liah”, short for “Life Is a Highway“, to commemorate the place where she was found and the beginning of her new life. Veterinarians were able to determine that Liah was about four weeks old, probably separated from mother near the farm. After being treated for a respiratory infection, fleas and ear mites, Liah recovered quickly.

Leah currently lives with Cliff’s family in Ontario. The Cliffs already had four cats: Coco, Wanda, James and the youngest, Vito, but Liah quickly became part of the family. “Our oldest cat, Coco, is struggling with old age, so Leah’s arrival brightens the house. She’s the smallest of them all, but she doesn’t seem afraid of anything,” says Cliff. “He may be the youngest, but he is brave and constantly catches up to his older brothers, bringing a lot of energy into the house.“.
