Surprise the personnel at the DFB!
Julian Nagelsmann (38) nominated Leipzig’s best talent, Assan Ouédraogo (19).
Background to this personnel decision: Nadiem Amiri suffers from adductor problems. Ouedraogo will join the team this Monday evening as they prepare for two World Cup qualifying matches against Luxembourg (Friday, 20.45, RTL) and Slovakia (Monday, 20.45, ZDF) in Wolfsburg.

For Ouédraogo, things are currently looking up – and not just at RB Leipzig! After the midfield gem established himself in the starting line-up with a strong showing in the Bundesliga runners-up, the 2023 U17 world champions were also promoted to the DFB. In October he was first nominated for the U21 national team, and now he will make the jump to the senior national team.
When Ouédraogo moved from Schalke to Leipzig in the summer of 2024, he was one of the most sought-after talents in Germany. Bayern also wants the 2023 U17 world champions.
But injuries hampered his development. First a serious knee injury, then thigh surgery – Ouédraogo made just five short appearances in all competitions last season, clocking in at just 70 minutes.
This season he is in his best form and is placed under the tutelage of Ole Werner. Ouedraogo entered 10th Bundesliga-Played with 2 goals and 3 assists and is in second place in the table with RB.
At the end of September he said in a BILD interview when asked: How far is the senior national team’s target?: “I’m not thinking about that at the moment. You always have to stay realistic. I was out for quite a long time, got very few minutes and the competition was tough.”
Now everything is happening faster than expected. Nagelsmann already praised him at Monday morning’s press conference and gave him World Cup hopes: “There are a lot of players in the draw who could go through. It could affect Ouedraogo, it could affect Lennart Karl, it could affect Tresoldi.”
For Ouedraogo, the next step has been taken with his first appointment.
