The investigation continues after the suspects were arrested on Thursday. Securing evidence is important because so far those who have been arrested have still exercised their right to remain silent. Perhaps an object found could help prove the crime even without a statement: As broadcaster RTL reported on Saturday, journalists were given burnt gloves by a witness. He found the gloves not far from where the body was found.
Nowack Senior Prosecutor also reacted to the discovery in an interview with t-online – and to the question of why the gloves had not been found at the scene during investigative work. “The gloves were several hundred meters from the pool,” investigators said. Such a large area is not routinely searched. The gloves are now being examined in detail.
Fabian disappeared from Güstrow on 10 October. He lives there with his mother. In the morning he didn’t go to school because he didn’t feel well. When his mother came home from work in the afternoon, Fabian was gone. It wasn’t until four days later that his body was discovered – by Gina H., his father’s ex-girlfriend. He said that at that time he found the lifeless body while walking with his friend. He denied to several media outlets that he had anything to do with Fabian’s death.
When Fabian’s mother, Dorina, learned about the suspect’s arrest, she was upset, his lawyer Christine Habetha told broadcaster RTL. The woman had long been a concern of the family. The mother was very surprised why it took so long for an arrest warrant to be issued after the body was discovered.
Fabian’s mother had many questions following the death of her eight-year-old son, as his lawyer explained: “Was he suffering a lot, was he torturing himself, was he screaming, was he possibly defending himself?” At the same time, lawyers warn against speculation. “We are very, very quiet and believe in the work of the police,” he explained.
