Police officers tried to stop the rental car, but the driver sped away. After daring to run away and having an accident, officers managed to arrest the 19 year old teenager.
A 19-year-old driver fled from police in a dangerous manner in Delmenhorst on Sunday night. At around 19.30, officers wanted to stop the young man’s rental car. But instead of stopping, he actually stepped on the gas.
According to a police spokesperson on Monday, the driver on Bremer Strasse initially ignored the blue lights and sirens and drove onto Asternstrasse. From there the escape led down several side streets to the dead end “Storchenwiese”. The 19-year-old turned around there, and soon turned onto the opposite street, “Am Hoyersgraben”. Here, too, he turned around again and headed straight for a patrol car parked across the street, the spokesman reported.
The rental car crashed into a police vehicle that was supposed to prevent further travel. This resulted in damage of around 15,000 euros. Despite the impact, the driver continued to flee – this time onto the “Pferdekoppel” road. He and his passenger left the car there and fled. Both were arrested a short time later.
It turned out that the young man from Bremen did not have a driver’s license, according to officials. He also appeared to be under the influence of marijuana, as tests showed. In his vehicle, officers also found epilepsy medication which can cause intoxicating effects if the dose is high. During the investigation, the man was said to have insulted and threatened police officers.
Several investigations were initiated into the 19-year-old. Among other things, he must be responsible for prohibiting motor vehicle racing, driving without a license, and violating the Medical Law. The police confiscated the keys to the rental car.
