The Commission promised the European Parliament that the CAP budget would be maintained

Avoid crises and be confident. Monday, November 10, after exhausting negotiations over the weekend, the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, proposed, in a meeting with the Council and the European Parliament, to signal the European Parliament in the ongoing negotiations for the future community budget framework (2028-2034).

Since the presentation of the project worth almost 2,000 billion euros in July, criticism has been widespread: the new budget organization envisaged by the European executive would jeopardize the common agricultural policy (CAP) and cohesion funds, would cause great disappointment for farmers and regions, and would leave European parliamentarians far behind. Wanting to make the future budget as flexible as possible in order to provide a quicker response to emergencies related to the multiple crises facing the European Union (EU), the Commission has proposed to combine most of the CAP funds and regional policies, fisheries, border management and also reimbursements of Europe’s post-Covid-19 recovery plan.
