Trade Republic is increasingly under fire: the number of customer complaints increased by 133 percent. Neobroker defends himself.
The number of customer complaints against neobroker Trade Republic across 16 consumer advice centers has risen sharply since the start of the year. From January to September, more than 300 complaints were received, an increase of 133 percent compared to the same period last year, a spokesperson for the Association of Federal Consumer Organizations (vzbv) told “Handelsblatt” on Monday. The main reason is “customer service that is difficult or impossible to reach.”
According to a vzbv spokesperson, there have also been complaints about incomplete delivery or service. Financial supervisory authority Bafin has also noted increasing complaints regarding Trade Republic over recent times, “Handelsblatt” quoted financial circles as saying. Bafin did not want to comment on Trade Republic. However, he confirmed to the newspaper the increase in complaints about new brokers in general.
A Trade Republic spokesperson told Handelsblatt that the increasing number of complaints was primarily due to the company’s growth. The number of Trade Republic customers has nearly doubled in the past 18 months, he said. Therefore, the number of complaints has increased proportionally.
