Rome, 10 November (Adnkronos) – “Romano Prodi is well placed to raise an awakening of conscience to overcome unanimity in the decisions of the European Union. And if at present it is still impossible to change the Treaties, we can already move on by strengthening cooperation with interested parties. We need courage to take a leap forward in European integration which was also reminded in clear words by the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella”. That’s the note from Democratic Party Secretary Elly Schlein.
“This is why we ask the Meloni government to fight with us to continue on the path of co-investment in Europe based on the Next Generation European Union model. To bring to life a major European industrial and social plan that supports innovation and also relaunches manufacturing in Italy, responding to the concerns of the business world expressed today by the president of Confindustria Orsini. A co-investment plan is necessary to accompany business and workers in the double ecological and digital transition, reducing social and territorial gaps. The common defense of Europe is indispensable, but as Prodi said, this is different from the rearmament of the states that causes a lot of money to be spent unnecessarily and does not create deterrence.”
“Of course, increased military spending by individual countries will result in greater purchases and dependence on Trump. Without joint European investment and a majority decision, we risk seeing the EU sidelined by the commercial aggressiveness of Trump’s tariffs, Putin’s threats and Chinese expansionism. This is no longer a question of politics, it is a question of Europe’s survival and relaunch.”
