The scene probably won’t make the family want to go to the football stadium. Friday evening, during the National 2 (French 4th division) amateur match, in Bobigny, where FC93 hosted Cannes, a spectator from the Seine-Saint-Denis club violently attacked a Cannes supporter who had come to support their team.
In the video circulating on social networks, we hear a person, who is definitely annoyed with the score (0-1 defeat) and the sporting situation of his team (14th out of 16), attacking and verbally threatening a group of Cannes supporters cheering on his players. He eventually approached them in a very hostile manner and violently grabbed one of them by the neck before security agents intervened.
Three days after the incident, the FC93 club spoke out on its social networks. He regretted the “unfortunate incident that occurred in the stands” and the “inappropriate behavior of one of his supporters during the match” and wanted to “apologize” to AS Cannes and its fans.
“The club firmly condemns any form of incivility, violence or behavior that goes against the values of sport and fair play that should prevail on the football field,” wrote president Mahamadou Niakaté. Football Club 93 reaffirms its deep attachment to respect, sportsmanship and hospitality between clubs and supporters. Finally, the club expressed its best wishes to AS Cannes for the remainder of this season. »
An immediate reaction was welcomed by Cannes leaders who, in a press release, “noted a press release from FC 93 Bobigny condemning the isolated actions that occurred in the stands during the National 2 meeting.”
“Football must remain a moment of sharing, respect and passion”
“We welcome this clear and responsible position,” the press release continued. AS Cannes strongly condemns any act of violence, intimidation or aggression, whatever the circumstances… These acts are unacceptable and we would like to reiterate that every supporter, woman, man, child, must feel safe at a football stadium, at home or when travelling. Football must remain a moment of sharing, respect and passion, and the safety of all spectators must remain an absolute priority. »
